Краткосрочные ссуды населению на приобретение товаров. Наиболее распространенными формами потребительского кредита являются кредитные счета в магазинах розничной торговли, личные ссуды, выдаваемые банками и финансовыми домами, покупки в рассрочку (hire purchase) и кредитные карточки (credit cards). С тех пор как вступил в силу Закон о потребительском кредите (1974 г.), заемщик получил большую защиту своих прав, особенно в том, что касается установления действительной ставки процента по ссудам (см.:annual percentage rate (процентная ставка в годовом исчислении)). Закон также устанавливает, что всякий, кто систематически занимается кредитованием (за небольшими исключениями), должен получить лицензию. реестр потребительского кредита
Реестр, который ведет Генеральный директор по справедливой торговле в соответствии с требованиями Закона о потребительском кредите (1974 г.). В нем регистрируются лицензирование или осуществление деятельности предприятий, занимающихся потребительским кредитованием или продажей товаров в рассрочку. Реестр содержит детали заявок, в отношении которых решение еще не принято, перечень действующих лицензий и лицензий, действие которых в любой момент может быть приостановлено или отменено, и решений, вынесенных на основании Закона Директором, и все апелляции по ним. Любой член общества имеет право за определенную плату ознакомиться с реестром.
